UETR

Every SWIFT gpi payment carries a UETR — a UUID stamped at origination that survives the whole correspondent chain. With it, any bank in the chain (and increasingly, sender-facing tracking tools) can locate a payment’s current position and status in near real time. When a wire is delayed, asking your bank to “trace the UETR” is the request that gets results; we’ve recovered stuck transfers with exactly that sentence.
